Quality Assessment for Eating Establishments
Background to Taste Cheshire Quality Scheme
The ‘Taste’ quality assessment schemes are owned by VisitBritain (VB) and operated by Quality in Tourism (QiT), VisitBritain’s assessing body, with the support of the local tourism organisation in each sub-region. The scheme focuses on eating establishments of any type or size and the assessment is carried out annually. There is not yet national coverage but local sub-regions who have schemes include Lancashire (Taste Lancashire) and Merseyside
(Taste Merseyside).
Operation
The assessor makes a mystery visit to the dining establishment and carries out a report on the following areas:
• Exterior and public areas around the dining area.
• General cleanliness.
• The bar and restaurant / dining room.
• The general hospitality received.
• Service and efficiency of the staff.
• The food served.
• The use of local Cheshire food.
There is no ‘star’ rating, just two levels, Quality Assured and Highest Quality Assured. Should the establishment being assessed not reach either of these two grades then they will receive the ‘Made in Cheshire’ logo for good use of local produce. This logo will be given to any establishment which demonstrates a good use of locally sourced Cheshire produce.
