CATS 2007-The Evening

CATS 2007-The WinnersThe winners and runners-up of this year’s Cheshire Awards for Tourism Skills (CATS) were announced last week at a spectacular swinging sixties themed awards evening at Tatton Park.

Judges once again commented on the high standard of nominations received from businesses throughout the area.

Now in their seventh year, the CATS are the biggest skills awards in the North West. They were devised to recognise and reward the best in the industry and are supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

They celebrate the hard work and commitment of all those involved in the sector and address the skills shortage in the tourism industry.

Attendance at the event proved to be the biggest ever with numbers exceeding 500. Key sponsors included Search Recruitment and In/Out Club.

TV chef Simon Rimmer, who hosted the event, commented: “It’s wonderful to see such talent continuing to develop throughout the Cheshire area. All of the winners, runners up and nominees should be extremely proud of their achievements in an industry that is judged on service standards and demands commitment and hard work. Congratulations to all!”

Visit Chester & Cheshire Head of Business Development Emma Clarke said: “This year’s CATS awards have undoubtedly been the most successful yet. The awards showcase some of the best talent in the tourism industry, particularly among the young people nominated for awards.

“The standard of entries has been higher than ever this year and I congratulate the entrants on their achievements.

“It’s clear there’s a growing recognition that a skilled and committed workforce is the key to the future success of this industry. We’re already looking ahead with excitement to next year’s event.”

James Berresford, Director of Tourism at the Northwest Regional Development Agency, added: “A well trained and skilled workforce is fundamental to the continuing success of the tourism industry.   Talented staff play a huge role in the quality of the visitor experience, and it is vital that we continue to invest in, reward and encourage them.

“I congratulate all the winners, who have demonstrated the professionalism that we already have within the industry and who I am sure will be an inspiration to others.”
